SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The No. 10 Piedmont men's golf team placed fourth as the USA South Conference Tournament came to a close on Wednesday afternoon in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
For the second consecutive day, sophomore 
ERIC PENLAND led the Lions, delivering a tournament-best 1-under 71 for Piedmont. Penland's 71 ties his career low round and netted him a top-10 finish in the event.
 
As a team, the Lions improved by five strokes over Tuesday's second round, coming in with a 302. Piedmont finished the event at 38 over par, nine shots clear of fifth-place Averett.
Coming into Wednesday's final round, Penland had not made anything worse than a bogey. Although he actually did make a double bogey at the par-4 9th hole, he made up for it with a team-high four birdies and just one bogey.
Senior 
MICHAEL CLARDY bounced back after a difficult second round with a final round 3-over 75 that included a pair of birdies. 
JOSH HEBRINK delivered a 5-over 77 while 
FRED ROBERTS IV marked th team's final counting score with a 7-over 79. Roberts IV did come in with a flourish, making birdie on his last two holes.
BEN HUBER carded an 82 as the fifth Lion competing in the event.
Methodist ran away with the team title as it boasted each of the top three players on the individual leaderboard, including individual champion Cameron Capuzzo.
Up next, the Lions will await their fate, hoping to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
