DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's golf team finds itself in fourth place as Round Two of the USA South Conference Tournament was completed Tuesday afternoon in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Junior FRED ROBERTS IV made a pair of eagles, including the par-5 18th hole to help the Lions rally late and overtake Averett to move into fourth place with one hole remaining.

After opening with a team score of 293, Piedmont fell back with a 307 in the second round. Due to a delayed start on Monday because of inclement weather, the Lions finished the first round Tuesday morning before beginning the second round.

MICHAEL CLARDY led the team with a 1-under 71 in the first round but fell back with an 81 in his second round. BEN HUBER carded a solid opening round 72 but was also 10 shots worse in the second round, coming in with an 82.

Roberts IV has carded back-to-back 75's. However, his second round was a rollercoaster that included two eagles, three birdies and three double bogeys.

The most consistent Lion through two rounds has been sophomore ERIC PENLAND, who backed up a first round 75 with a second round 74 to lead the team. Penland has not made anything worse than a bogey through his first 36 holes of competition and added a pair of birdies in the second round, both coming on his second nine for a 1-under 35 coming in.

Piedmont played the par-5 18th hole in 3-under as a team as Roberts IV had an eagle while JOSH HEBRINK made his first birdie of the tournament to come in with a second round 77.

Methodist has broken away from the pack and holds a 21 shot lead going into the final round. The Monarchs have three players tied for the individual lead at 5 under par.

The final 18 holes will be completed on Wednesday.
