JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - For the second consecutive day, FRED ROBERTS IV carded an under par round to lead the No. 10 Piedmont men's golf team in the final round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate.

Playing the Pine Lakes Course at Jekyll Island Golf Club, Roberts IV delivered a 1-under par 71 to lead the Lions. On the individual leaderboard, the junior from Richmond Hill, Georgia jumped up to finish in a tie for 12th.

 


After an uneventful front nine of 1-over 37, he made all pars on the back nine but closed strong, recording birdies on his last two holes of the tournament.

Newcomer BEN HUBER and sophomore ERIC PENLAND each closed their tournament with a 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for 45th in the event.

Huber's round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 15th hole.

For Penland, it marked his second straight 74 after opening with a 71 on Friday. Penland also closed strong, making birdie on the par-5 18th hole.

Piedmont's final counting score came from JOSH HEBRINK, who delivered a 5-over 77.

In the toughest conditions all weekend, the Lions fell back to a tie for 13th on the individual leaderboard with an 8-over 296 team score.

Sewanee closed out the team title, finishing at 13 under for the tournament.

Up next, the Lions will look to defend their team title at the Wynlakes Invitational, starting Monday, March 28 in Montgomery, Alabama.

The individual portion of the tournament was not played on Sunday due to unplayable course conditions.

CONNOR HIXSON finished 11th in that event with two 75's while MATTHEW ARIZA delivered a 3-over 75 and 4-over 76 to finish T-12.

RYAN COLWELL (74-77) was also T-12. MICHAEL CLARDY (77-83), CONNOR LANE (80-81) and CAMERON LUCAS (83-85) also competed.
