JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The No.10 Piedmont men's golf team delivered a solid effort on day one of the Jekyll Island Invitational on Friday afternoon, coming in at 1-over 287 for the day.
The Lions find themselves in a tie for 12th with 36 holes to play, competing in a strong field with many of the nation's best teams.Â
Sophomore
ERIC PENLAND led the Lions on Friday, nearing his career-low round with a 1-under 71. Penland was rock solid throughout the day, carding three birdies and just two bogeys. Teeing off on hole No. 10, Penland came home in 1-under 35 with eight pars and one birdie on his final nine.

Consistency was the them of the day for Piedmont, with all five players shooting between 71 and 74.
Newcomer
BEN HUBER was steady once again, carding an even par round of 72 that saw him make 16 pars.
FRED ROBERTS IV tied for the team lead with five birdies on his round, delivering a 1-over 73 along with sophomore
JOSH HEBRINK. Hebrink's 1-over round broke his streak of six consecutive rounds at par or better.
MARIO PEREZCASSAR III rounded out the lineup with a 2-over 74. Perezcassar III tied Roberts IV with five birdies for the day.
Up next, Piedmont will take on the second round on Saturday.
