MT. BERRY, Ga. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team fell 15-7 on the road at Berry on Wednesday night.
The Lions hung close in the first quarter, but a scoreless second quarter and a 7-0 run by the Vikings proved to be too much to overcome.
Senior attackman
AVERY JENKS led Piedmont in defeat, scoring five of the team's seven goals with sophomore
BRADY MCGUIRE recording the other two.
The Lions were able to take advantage of a Berry penalty, scoring just two minutes into the game on Jenks' first of the night. The rest of the first quarter was back-and-forth as Jenks found the back of the net two more times in the opening period.
Berry trailed 4-3 with just over five minutes left in the first when it embarked on a 7-0 scoring run that encompassed the rest of the first quarter and the entirety of the second.
Trailing 10-4 going to the break, Piedmont finally ended its scoring drought on McGuire's second of the night, just over a minute into the second half. The momentum appeared to be shifting after Jenks scored a few minutes later to cut the Piedmont deficit to 10-6.
Unfortunately, Berry responded just over a minute later with back-to-back goals in a 42 second span to once again grab control.
The Piedmont offense scored just once in the fourth quarter on Jenks' fifth and final goal of the night.
Up next, the Lions will head to Texas to battle Calvin University on March 1.
