CARY, N.C. – Piedmont University's swimming teams completed yet another impressive season on Saturday as they each finished as runners-up at the Independent South Swimming Conference meet in Cary, North Carolina.
The Lions each finish the season with impressive records as the men finished undefeated in duals while the women were 8-1 in head-to-head matchups. Additionally, both teams finished in at least the top half of each of their invite-style competitions in year two of the program.
Piedmont only captured one race victory over the three-day event, but used consistency to earn the runner-up finishes as both programs scored behind the meet champions Southern Virginia.
Freshman
GLYNN MORGAN earned the only victory for Piedmont back on Thursday when he took the top spot in the 500 Yard Freestyle in an exciting side-by-side battle with SVU's Kai West. Morgan would clock a 4:55.28, just half a second better than West, to take home the top spot in the race.
Beyond that win, the men got a boost from sophomore
JON BROWN who placed as the runner-up in a trio of events, including the 100 Yard Backstroke. He was also part of two second-place relay teams as he and his teammates finished near the top in each the 200 Yard Medley Relay and the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay races.
One of Brown's teammates for the medley relay, freshman
LEANDRO FORERO, also earned an individual runner-up finish in the long 1650 Yard Freestyle race as he finished less than 10 seconds behind SVU's Connor Moore.
The Piedmont women were led by a pair of individual second place runs from sophomore
GWYNETH THOMAS as she placed top-two in each the 100 and 200 Yard Backstroke races. Thomas was 10+ seconds ahead of the third-place finisher in both races.
Thomas also did her part in a pair of top-two relay finishes for the Lady Lions as she and her teammates were second in each the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay and the 400 Yard Medley Relay.
Sophomore
LAUREN STONE was a part of both of those relays while also taking second place in one of the closest races of the meet, the 1650 Yard Freestyle. Stone clocked a 19:27.28 that was less than a second slower than SVU's Rachel Draper, the race winner.
Sophomore
LIZZIE ARRENDALE was the final Lady Lion to be a runner-up as an individual as she came home second in the 200 Yard Butterfly.
