CORNELIA, Ga. - This past weekend the Piedmont Cycling team competed at one of their favorite races of the year taking place in their backyard.
The Assault on Currahee Mountain, a gravel race put on by Chainbuster Racing, was held at Lake Russell, located just down the road from Piedmont University. For this race, there was an option for a 24-mile course and a 40-mile course.Â
DYLAN LINDSEY, the team's ringer woke up sick on race morning and was unable to compete, therefore the team collectively had some big shoes to fill. Two Piedmont Athletes and a future Piedmont Athlete took on the brutal long course. Not only was the course difficult, but the conditions added another difficult factor. KATIE PROWELL pushed through the mud and cold rain and got 1st for the Female Open Long. Grace Wilson a future Piedmont Lion closely followed Katie to get 2nd in the Female Open Long. Â
Â

Many of the Piedmont Athletes took on the challenge of the short course. RHYLEE WITTROCK battled into 2nd place for the Women's Female Open Short. EMMA FROST chased Rhylee and got 3rd in the Women's Open Short. HANNAH KUNZE also raced hard and was just short of making it to the podium. Many of the Piedmont Cyclists who did not race volunteered and helped the race run smoothly. Â
