HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The No. 7 Piedmont men's golf team battled through the first round on Sunday afternoon at the NCAA Preview.
Playing the first round on the Los Colinas Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club, the Lions finished day one in 20th out of 24 teams following a 14-over 302 team score.
Piedmont was led by sophomore
JOSH HEBRINK, who fired a 1-over 73 that included a birdie and an eagle on the par-5 12th hole.

The usually steady
MICHAEL CLARDY provided a solid 3-over 75 with a pair of birdies on a difficult scoring day for the Lions.
Newcomer
MATTHEW ARIZA and
FRED ROBERTS IV added 5-over 77's to close out the four counting scores for the Lions while sophomore
ERIC PENLAND carded an 81.
USA South foe Methodist raced out to the top of the team leaderboard, firing a 15-under score to open an 11 stroke lead on second-place Huntingdon.
The Monarchs' Henry Angier delivered an 8-under 64 to sit atop the individual leaderboard.
Each player on the Lions carded at least one birdie but no player made more than two.
The tournament will continue Monday morning with the second round before play concludes on Tuesday with the final 18 holes.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Hebrink's 1-over 73 marked the third time in four competitive rounds this fall in which he has shot that exact number.
