TUNICA, Miss. - The No. 7 Piedmont men's golf team took home third place out of 16 teams as the Rhodes Fall Intercollegiate concluded Tuesday afternoon in Tunica, Mississippi.
For the second consecutive round,
FRED ROBERTS IV led the way with a 2-under 70. The junior from Richmond Hill took home a solo fourth place finish with a 1-under par total score for the tournament.Â

As a team, the Lions improved on its second round total by one stroke, firing a 3-over 291 on Tuesday to remain in third place on the leaderboard. The team's 17-over total score was seven behind second-place Sewanee and seven ahead of fourth-place Webster.
Sophomore
ERIC PENLAND continued his strong play, carding a 1-over 73 that included four birdies. Penland's T-10 finish marked his highest as a Lion and the first top 10 of his career.Â
Fellow sophomore
JOSH HEBRINK bounced back from a second round 77 to deliver a final round 1-over 73 with four birdies as well, leading to a T-19 finish.
One day after making a hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole, newcomer
MATTHEW ARIZA made another eagle, this time on the par-5 16th on his way to a 75. The fourth and fifth scores for the Lions were both 75's as
MICHAEL CLARDY also delivered the number to finish T-24 in the tournament.
Newcomer
CONNOR HIXSONÂ finished up his first Piedmont event with a 7-over 79 to finish T-39.
USA South foe Huntingdon took home the team title, finishing at 2-over as a team. Webster's Will Hocker won the individual title with a final round 3-under 69 to finish at -7 for the event.
Up next, the Lions will take part in the NCAA Preview in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, beginning this Sunday, Sept. 19.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Roberts IV's 2-under 70 in the final round marked the first time in his career that he has fired back-to-back under par rounds in the same event.
- Penland's 54-hole total of 219 marked a career best for the sophomore from Marietta, Georgia.

- Piedmont's third-place finish improves upon its fifth-place finish from the fall of 2019.
