MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. - The Piedmont men's golf team opened up the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational with a strong showing in windy conditions on Sunday afternoon at the Raven Golf Club in Miramar Beach, Florida.

JOSH HEBRINK led the Lions, firing an even par round of 71 which included making 12 consecutive pars to close out his round. The sophomore from Elk River, Minnesota began his day in style, making lengthy putts on holes two and three to go 2-under in the early going. After dropping two shots later on the front nine, he battled back and held steady, delivering the even par round and holding a tie for seventh on the individual leaderboard.
 

Playing out of the No. 1 spot in the lineup, FRED ROBERTS IV also delivered a rock solid round, making 15 pars on his way to a 1-over 72.
 

ERIC PENLAND delivered a 5-over 76 with a birdie and a 1-over 36 on his front nine while MICHAEL CLARDY led the team with three birdies and carded a 7-over 78.

CONNOR HIXSON's 81 did not count, but the junior from Acworth delivered a solid second nine, with a pair of birdies on holes 15 and 17 and came in with .

As a team, the Lions delivered a 13-over 297, just 10 shots off Emory, which leads at 3-over. The leaderboard is bunched at the top, as 

On the individual leaderboard, only six players were under par for the day as Averett's Caleb Kimbrough fired a 4-under 67.

Up next, Piedmont will begin the second round at 10:44 eastern time. The order of play will Hixson followed by Clardy, Penland, Roberts IV and Hebrink.
