Piedmont to Play Washington and Lee in NCAA Tournament

DEMOREST, Ga. – History will be made on Wednesday as the Piedmont College men's lacrosse team will make its first appearance in the NCAA tournament.

The Lions will head to Lexington, Va. for a second-round matchup against the No. 17 Generals of Washington and Lee. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wilson Field.

Tickets will be sold at the gate and can be purchased for the following prices: $5 for students with ID and children over the age of 5 while adults will be charged $10.

Piedmont will be the first team from the state of Georgia to play in the NCAA tournament across the three Divisions.

W&L will be making its 21st appearance in the NCAA tournament and will be playing in its 13th Division III tournament. The Generals moved to Division III from Division I in the late 1980's.

The Lions earned the automatic qualifying bid after defeating Huntingdon 11-10 in the USA South Athletic Conference Championship on April 28 while W&L won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with an 8-7 win over Lynchburg.  
 
The Opponent:
- The Generals have been ranked in the polls by the USILA and Inside Lacrosse for most of the season and took down Lynchburg in the ODAC finals, 8-7.

- Washington and Lee finished the season with a 15-4 overall record and have won 11-straight games.

- The four losses have come to No. 7 York (7-6), No. 9 Denison (14-13), No. 20 Franklin & Marshall (13-10) and No. 11 Gettysburg (14-13).

- Gene McCabe is in his 13th season as head coach for W&L and will be leading his team to its fifth NCAA tournament since 2007.

- Last season, the Generals won its second-round game before falling in the third round to Dickinson.

- Senior attackman A.J. Witherell leads the team with 74 points (41,33) while a trio of midfielders have combined for 112 points.

- Defenseman Paul Callahan has 20 caused turnovers and 39 ground balls. The Generals have five other payers with 10 or more caused turnovers.

- Junior fogo Jack Hodgson boasts a .732 faceoff winning percentage and has collected 108 ground balls off 263 faceoff wins.

- The Generals have relied on sophomore goalie Jack Taylor for the season. He has a 6.98 goals against average and a 59.3 save percentage.
