Atlanta, GA - In an offensive showcase, the Piedmont College baseball team came up on the losing end dropping a 20-16 contest to Oglethorpe Wednesday night. Piedmont led 11-2 in the contest after the top of the third, but the Stormy Petrels stormed back to take the victory.
The Lions got the scoring started early putting up a run in the top of the first, but the Stormy Petrels answered with two of their own to make it a 2-1 OU lead.
BRADY BALLSTADT had an RBI single to drive in
TYLER BURDETTE while the Stormy Petrels scored twice on two hits and an error, but
SETH GEORGE did leave the bases loaded to limit the damage.
Piedmont blew it open in the third inning scoring 10 runs as the Lions had four stolen bases in the inning coupled with two errors by the Stormy Petrels and five walks.
GRIFFIN OLSON belted his first home run of the season as PC sent 13 batters to the plate.
The Stormy Petrels continued to fight with a solo shot in the third inning and scored four more in the fourth inning making it 12-7 Lions. Oglethorpe would add five runs in each the 7th and the 8th innings to take the contest with PC putting up one run in the ninth inning but it was not enough as OU won 20-16.
Turning Point
--The third inning seemed to put the Lions out in front for good, but Oglethorpe stormed back with five runs in each the 7th & 8th innings to take the contest.
Standout Performances
--
TYLER BURDETTE was 4-for-6 in the leadoff spot with three runs scored and three RBI.
--
BRADY BALLSTADT had a pair of hits going 2-for-3 and was walked three times while adding four stolen bases.
Inside the Box Score
--
GRIFFIN OLSON added to his NCAA Career record with another sacrifice hit in the top of the first as he set the record earlier this season.
--Olson also had a homerun in the contest, his first of the season and his third of his career.
News & Notes
--Piedmont used nine pitchers Wednesday who combined for 12 strikeouts.
--There were a combined 23 walks in the contest.

--The Lions return home to take on North Carolina Wesleyan College in a 3-game series at Loudermilk Field Friday-Sunday.
