Demorest, GA - In the series opener against N.C. Wesleyan College, the Piedmont College baseball team used an offensive outburst to surge past the Battling Bishops in an 8-1 victory. The Lions out-hit N.C. Wesleyan 17-5 in the contest with
BRADY BALLSTADT leading the way going 4-for-5 from the plate.
The Battling Bishops were first on the board scoring a run on a single hit in the second inning, but starter
MAX BENING settled in and shut down the N.C. Wesleyan attack. Bening allowed just two more hits over his course of six innings' work to earn the win on the mound.
Piedmont was rolling offensively once the bats got hot scoring to tie the game in the bottom of the third and taking the lead on a Ballstadt double in the fifth inning. The Lions would score in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings of the game with two runs in each of those but the sixth.
Ballstadt led the way followed by
GRIFFIN OLSON who was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI while adding to his record with two more sacrifice hits.
BARRETT COURTWRIGHT pitched an inning for Piedmont while it was
MATT VONDERSCHMIDT that closed out the contest pitching the final two innings as both relievers gave up just one hit in their outing.

BRADY BALLSTADT double in the fifth drove in
JABIN SMITH for the go-ahead run as PC scored two in the bottom of the fifth to lead 3-1.
Standout Performances

BRADY BALLSTADT was 4-for-5 from the plate with two RBI and two runs scored in the game as well as making a diving catch in centerfield defensively.

MAX BENING earned the win moving to 3-3 on the season pitching six complete innings giving up one run on three hits.

--The win puts Piedmont at .500 on the season at 14-14 overall.
