Game 1 Score: Piedmont 6, Olivet 1
Game 2 Score: Piedmont 5, Christopher Newport 11

Raleigh, N.C.  - The Piedmont College softball team opened play at the Triangle Classic Saturday taking on Olivet and Christopher Newport splitting the contests. The Lady Lions picked up a win over Olivet 6-1 Saturday morning and lost to Christopher Newport 11-5 later in the day.

The Lady Lions defeated the Comets of Olivet to open the day picking up a 6-1 victory behind a solid outing by SARAH WALKER. Walker tossed the complete game giving up 10 hits but only allowed a single run while striking out seven batters.

Those seven strikeouts tie a season-high for Walker as she has 30 strikeouts through six appearances. Piedmont scored in the top of the first as HANNAH HOBAN doubled to left center driving in ALLYSON GENTRY, but the Comets answered in the second inning with a pair of doubles to tie the game at one.

The next three runs for PC would all come off errors as a pair of errors in the third inning led to Gentry scoring again giving PC the game-winning run.

The Captains ran away with the contest in game two as Christopher Newport scored three runs in the first and tacked on seven in the second inning to take a 10-4 lead after two complete. Both teams would add another run making it a final of 11-5.

Turning Point
--The Lady Lions scored three runs off errors in the first game of the day vs. Olivet with runs in the 3rd, 4th and 6th innings off Comet errors.
--A seven run second inning for the Captains put the game away for Christopher Newport.
