Men's Tennis Takes Care of Visiting Panthers 9-0 at Burgen Tennis Courts

Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College men's tennis team had no trouble taking down visiting LaGrange College earlier Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 sweep of the Panthers at Burgen Tennis Courts.

Piedmont picked up all six singles wins in straight sets led by MATTHEW METZGER who continues a stellar 2016 season getting the clinching decision at #2 singles.  The Lions rolled out of doubles play with no more than three games given up in any of the three doubles spots.

Metzger paired with his brother NATHAN METZGER to take their 10th doubles win of the season as well taking an 8-3 victory at the top doubles spot.  

The win for Piedmont extends a streak of now four straight for the Lions with all four coming in conference play.

Huntingdon is next on the slate as the final match of the 2016 regular season for Piedmont with the Hawks arriving for a 10:00 am start on Sunday, April 10 at Burgen Tennis Courts.

Turning Point
--MATTHEW METZGER clinched the decision with his win at the #2 singles spot defeating Henrique Sizenando 6-1, 6-2.

Standout Performances
--NATHAN METZGER earned the win at #1 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 decision, his 8th singles win of the season.

Inside the Box Score
--HARRISON LABOLLITA and ROBBIE WERNER dropped just four games between them at #5 and #6 singles with a pair of 6-1, 6-1 wins.

News & Notes
--Piedmont came into the day 14-2 against the Panthers since 2008 with the only two losses coming the year before Head Tennis Coach Shane Wood returned to Burgen.
--Since Wood's return, the Lions have now posted a 12-match winning streak against the Panthers dating back to 2011.


Up Next
A classic between a pair of former GSAC dominant programs as Huntingdon College comes to town for a 10:00 am match on Sunday, April 10.  The two programs combined to win 11 of the 12 GSAC men's tennis championships handed out with Piedmont owning eight of those including seven straight from 2000 to 2006.
