Maryville, TN - The Piedmont College men's tennis team picked up an important win earlier Tuesday on the road in USA South play knocking off the Scots of Maryville College by a 9-0 score.

Piedmont swept doubles play to start the match without dropping a game at either #1 or #2 doubles in dominating fashion.  After the 3-0 lead was in hand, two straight set wins at the top two singles spots were more than enough to seal the deal for the Lions. 

The Lions were on point winning five of the six singles decisions in straight sets as MATTHEW METZGER moved to 8-4 at #2 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Markos Herrero.  

Turning Point
--A pair of 8-0 shutouts at the top two doubles spots set the tone for Piedmont in the 9-0 sweep.

Standout Performances
--MATTHEW METZGER and NATHAN METZGER were strong in doubles and singles action with the two combining to win at #1 before each picked up a singles win at the #2 and #1 spots respectively.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont saw only one singles decision come down to a third set with that coming at the #6 spot to AUSTIN MILLER.

News & Notes
--Piedmont has several important league matches left including two with teams above them in the conference standings, LaGrange on April 9 and Huntingdon on April 10.

Up Next
An April 2 trip up the mountain to face Covenant College for a 10:00 am match in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.  The USA South contest will be the last road match in the regular season portion of the schedule as the Lions wrap up 2016 with nothing but home matches at Burgen Tennis Courts.
