Demorest, GA - Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the ninth, the Piedmont College baseball team's two-run two out rally came up short against Massachusetts Institute of Technology as the Lions lost 3-2 to the Engineers. Piedmont scored a pair in the bottom of the ninth on three hits, one error and left the bases loaded.

MAX BENING earned the start for Piedmont as he was impressive despite taking the loss tossing six innings giving up seven hits, just two runs and a single walk while striking out six batters. Both BUDDY GREEN and ALLEN TOKARZ appeared in relief as Tokarz pitched a scoreless two innings of work allowing just two hits.

The Engineers struck first with two runs in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead which remained the score until they tacked on another run in the eighth inning to lead 3-0. Piedmont had just three hits heading in to the ninth inning when the Lions saw a two-out rally plate two runs, but they were unable to secure the tying run to force extras or win in walkoff fashion.

After a pair of pinch hitters were out to begin the ninth inning for Piedmont, three straight singles combined with an error scored the first run of the game for Piedmont. CHRIS WHITE, JAKE BROWNING and BRADY BALLSTADT all singled making it a 3-1 game.

Ballstadt stole second, then WILL SKIDMORE and GRIFFIN OLSON were walked to load the bases. After a pitching change for the Engineers, EVAN GRESHAM reached on a fielder's choice after he ground back up the middle and the shortstop made the unassisted out at second.

Turning Point
--A two-run third inning put the Engineers in front and they never surrendered the lead in the contest.

Standout Performances
--BRADY BALLSTADT was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in the contest as his lone hit was an RBI single that scored JAKE BROWNING making it a 3-2 game in the bottom of the ninth.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont had six hits but half of them came in the two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth.
