Men's Tennis Upends Centre 7-2 in Non-Conference Match-Up

Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College men's tennis team rebounded from a conference loss on Sunday to earn a 7-2 win over Centre College on Monday in action outside of league play.

The Lions took two of three doubles decisions to head into singles up a point with the Metzger squared combination at #1 continuing to dominate in doubles play.  The pair of brothers combined to shutout Luke Brooks and Ben Hadlock of Centre 8-0.  

MATTHEW METZGER and NATHAN METZGER also won their singles decisions with Piedmont taking five of six in that portion of the match.  Matt took his without dropping a game as he has now won four straight at the #2 spot and is 7-2 in singles play on the season. 

NATHAN METZGER won at #1 singles with his straight sets decision, the fifth of the 2016 season for the Auckland, New Zealand native.

Piedmont evens up now at 5-5 on the year and will now jump back into conference play for four straight road games starting at NC Wesleyan this weekend.

Turning Point
--After winning two in doubles play, Piedmont was paced to the win by a decisive victory at #2 singles by MATTHEW METZGER who didn't drop a game in his straight sets win.

Standout Performances
--Rallying at #2 doubles to set Piedmont up for the win was ROBBIE WERNER and BRYAN BARNETT who came up with a 9-8 (7-3) tie-break win to give Piedmont the lead.
--MATTHEW METZGER put on a brilliant performance at #2 singles winning 6-0, 6-0 over Luke Brooks.

Inside the Box Score
--All of Piedmont's wins in singles play came in straight sets, the 4th time that has happened for the Lions when winning four or more singles decisions (5 matches).

News & Notes
--Since February 20, ROBBIE WERNER and BRYAN BARNETT have combined to go 6-1 in doubles play.

The Lions hit the road for the first of three road contest in league play facing off against North Carolina Wesleyan College on March 25.
