Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College men's tennis team suffered its first setback in conference play this season earlier Sunday afternoon falling to visiting Averett University 5-4.

The Lions took two of three doubles decisions and held a 4-1 lead before the Cougars rallied to overtake Piedmont at home in the battle.  The Metzger brothers picked up a win at #1 doubles in the loss with each winning their singles decisions as well. 

However, Averett took the four remaining singles decisions to drop the Lions to 2-1 in USA South play. BRYAN BARNETT and ROBBIE WERNER accounted for Piedmont's #3 doubles win taking an 8-4 decision.

For Piedmont, the loss is the first in USA South play this year as the Lions now sit 4th in the league standings and face conference leader North Carolina Wesleyan in their next match.

Turning Point
--Averett's Alfonso Jimenez was the decider at #6 singles as he defeated HARRISON LABOLLITA in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. 

Standout Performances
--NATHAN METZGER put on a clinic at #1 singles winning 6-0, 6-1 over Oliver Lindqvist for his second conference win in singles play on the week.
--MATTHEW METZGER won his third straight singles decision with a two-set victory at #2 singles.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont's closest contest came at the #6 singles spot with Alfonso Jimenez outlasting HARRISON LABOLLITA in a three-set thriller.

News & Notes
--The loss is the first for Piedmont in conference play this season.
--The Lions entered the day with a 4-0 record against Averett in the last four meetings.
