Lions Win Seventh Straight in 9-6 Victory Over Oglethorpe

Atlanta, GA - After earning national rankings earlier in the day, the Piedmont College baseball team continued to roll with a 9-6 victory on the road at Oglethorpe Tuesday night. The familiar duo of ALLEN TOKARZ and JOSH THOMAS picked up the win and the save respectively as Tokarz now has three wins in the past three games and Thomas has four saves in as many games. 

The Lions began the scoring early as they had a three spot in the top of the first and led 5-0 following the top of the second, but the Stormy Petrels fought back to tie the game at five all, and again at six all after the fifth inning.

Piedmont took the lead in the sixth inning with three runs on singles by BRECK DAVIDSON and MICHAEL BARNES. MICHAEL BARNES led the team with four hits in the contest marking his sixth multi-hit game of the season and second-best performance of the year. 

ALLEN TOKARZ pitched 2.1 innings in relief earning the victory allowing just one hit, no runs, one walk and a strikeout. Thomas closed out the game tossing the final inning giving up a hit and striking out a pair. 

Turning Point
--A Barnes two-RBI single in the top of the sixth put the Lions up by the final of 9-6. 

Standout Performances
--MICHAEL BARNES recorded four hits in the contest to lead the Lions going 4-for-5 with four RBI. 

Inside the Box Score
--ALLEN TOKARZ earned his third win in as many games moving his record to 4-0 this season.
--JOSH THOMAS recorded another save for his fourth in four games giving him 11 this year as he continues to lead the country in saves. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont entered the national rankings Tuesday earning #14 in the ABCA poll and #21 in the d3baseball.com poll.

Piedmont will host Huntingdon College this weekend at Loudermilk Field for a three-game series.
