Sewanee, TN - The Piedmont College men's tennis only allowed one decision to go the way of the Pioneers of Transylvania University on Saturday afternoon dominating for an 8-1 decision and win #1 of the '16 season.  

With the Metzger brothers winning at #1 doubles and ROBBIE WERNER and BRYAN BARNETT combining to win #3, the Lions were set up for success in doubles and the squad needed only three singles decisions to finish it off.

NATHAN METZGER was the winner at #1 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 decision while brother Matt won in straight sets as well at #2.  BRYAN BARNETT then clinched it for Piedmont at #3 as the Lions took the overall decision with the remaining singles played out in super sets. 

Piedmont now readies for its next contest, the home opener against Millsaps this coming Thursday with action slated to begin at 2:30 pm.

Turning Point
--BRYAN BARNETT was responsible for the clinching decision taking a 6-2, 6-2 straight sets decision at #3 singles from Reza Haider.

Standout Performances
--BRENT JENKINS and ROBBIE WERNER didn't drop a game in their wins in singles action at the #4 and #5 slots respectively.
--The Metzger brothers earned an 8-4 win at #1 doubles to move to 1-1 in the 2016 season as a pair.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont did not drop a set in singles play en route to the 8-1 win over the Pioneers. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont is now 2-0 against Transy in their last two meetings knocking off the Pioneers 6-3 back in the 2013 season.

Up Next
The Lions will be in action next with their home opener on February 25 against Berry College at Burgen Tennis Courts.  The first serve is set for 2:30 pm.
