Metzger's Header in Final Minutes Puts Lions Past William Peace 1-0 in USA South Action

Need to Know
Score:  Piedmont 1 - William Peace 0
Records:  Lions 2-3-2 (1-1 USA South), Pacers 1-8 (1-2 USA South)
Location: Raleigh, North Carolina - WRAL Soccer Complex

Raleigh, NC - The Piedmont College men's soccer team picked up its first USA South victory of 2015 with some last minute heroics courtesy of freshman NATHAN METZGER and his older brother, MATTHEW METZGER

The siblings from Auckland, New Zealand combined on one of four Piedmont corners for the score as Nathan headed away a service from Matthew who had taken the corner kick in the 84th minute.

For Metzger, the goal is the first of his collegiate career and helped Piedmont earn a USA South win on the road after falling in the league opener a week ago to NC Wesleyan.

The Lions' goal was the latest Piedmont had scored to win a game in regulation since a 3-2 win over Ferrum just over a year ago when VINCENT THOMAS scored with just 50 seconds remaining.

Turning Point
--NATHAN METZGER's score in the closing minutes of the afternoon contest at the WRAL Soccer Complex, the first goal of his collegiate career.

Standout Performances
--KENNETH HEARN in the goal for Piedmont, a 90-minute shutout against the Pacers, his third clean sheet of the year.
--For MATTHEW METZGER, the assist is his second of the season and his first since the 3-0 win in the team's season opener.
--NATHAN METZGER becomes the second freshman to tally a score for Piedmont this season along with classmate CULLEN COPLAND who scored against Toccoa Falls on September 1.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont was outshot in the first half but held the edge in the second half.
--William Peace was unable to take advantage of seven first half corner kicks as the Piedmont defense along with Hearn kept the match scoreless long enough to earn the win in the end.

News & Notes
--Today was only the second meeting between the two programs as Piedmont won last year's meeting 5-1.
--Piedmont earns a conference win on the road as the Lions are now 3-1 in their last four conference games on the road in the regular season dating back to the 2014 season.
