Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College men's tennis team pushed early but ran out of steam in a 9-0 shutout loss to visiting Methodist University earlier today at Burgen Tennis Courts.
Piedmont dropped two tight decisions in doubles play 9-7 at the #1 spot and 8-5 at the #2 slot, but the Lions went on to fall in straight sets in five of the six singles decisions as the Monarchs pulled away for the USA South win to move to 6-2 and stay perfect in league action at now 3-0.
The loss is the first in conference play for PC who had won its first two league matches by 9-0 scorelines themselves. The Lions did see freshman
BRENT JENKINS push to three sets at the #5 singles spot falling 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 to Teal Howard.
The tiebreak doubles decision went against
MATTHEW METZGER and
NATHAN METZGER as the pair picked up their first doubles loss in USA South play. Each then fell in singles action for the first time as well as Piedmont drops to 3-2 overall and is now 2-1 in conference play.
The Lions will get back on the court this coming Wednesday when Piedmont pays Point University a visit for a March 18 match. First serve in West Point, Georgia is set for 2:30 pm.
