MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - No. 4 seeded Piedmont men's tennis delivered a 4-0 performance over No. 5-seeded Huntingdon to advance to the CCS semifinals.
The Lions picked up key wins in singles to push them to victory over the Hawks.
Piedmont picked up its first win of the day at No. 3 doubles, where Caleb McElveen and Horacio Rodriguez secured a 6-4 win.
The Lions' success continued at No. 1 with another 6-4 win, courtesy of Charles Parnell and Leyton Dunn.
The third doubles match with Mark Backeberg and Rohan Kavali could not be finished, but with the previous two wins, the Lions had already secured the win in doubles.
Piedmont collected its first singles win at No. 4 as Kavali swept his opponent in the first set 6-0, while finishing off the second set with a 6-2 final.
At No. 3, Leyton Dunn brought in the Lions' second singles win of the day with a 6-1 and 6-2 performance.
The final victory of the day for the Lions came at No. 6, where McElveen battled to secure the win in a tiebreaker with an 8-6 win.
The set on the other three courts could not be finished, giving the Lions a 4-0 win.
Piedmont is set to face the No. 1 seeded Asbury Eagles in the semifinal round. Against the Eagles in the regular season, the Lions struggled, losing 6-1.
The semifinal round is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. central time in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
