Piedmont Softball Triumphant in Doubleheader With William Peace University; 7-0, 8-0

Brittney Head's complete game and seven strikeouts in game one paved the way for a doubleheader win at William Peace University.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Raleigh, N.C. - The #11 nationally ranked Piedmont Lady Lions continued their success this USA South Conference weekend with two wins, 7-0 and 8-0 over William Peace University. Piedmont outhit the Pacers 10-5 on the day.

Game one saw only two scoring innings for the Lions. In the top of the fourth, Jamie Dennis and Lauren Head both reached base on balls. Megan Kesler hit a sharp single that the pitcher couldn't handle to load the bases for Abby Atkinson. The second basemen singled to score Dennis and Head and put the first runs on the board. Megan McClain reached on a fielding error the next play to score Kesler and the inning ended with McClain left on third.

Olivia Duncan and Kristin Hamby singled in the top of the seventh and moved to scoring position thanks to Jamie Dennis. A wild pickoff attempt went in Piedmont's favor as both Duncan and Hamby scored. The last run of the game came when another wild pitch brought Jamie Dennis in from third.

Junior pitcher Brittney Head led the Lady Lions defense with her 14th complete game and 11th win of the season.

The Lady Lions put two on the board early in game two thanks to a two RBI single by Lauren Head that scored Olivia Duncan and Taylor Morgan.

In the top of the second, Abby Atkinson and Megan McClain both walked and stole bases to put themselves in scoring position. The strategy played out as a passed ball brought brought runners to home plate. Morgan and Duncan reached base again but not for long as Kristin Hamby tripled to left center, earning herself two RBI's. Jamie Dennis brought Hamby in the next at bat to increase the deficit to 7-0.

Piedmont's final run came in the top of the sixth. Whitney Wolfe made her way to third after singling and in a dramatic game of pickle that got one runner out at second, Wolfe slid home to score the eighth and final run of the game.

Jordin Ellingson struck out six in five innings before Jordan Bennet came in to relieve. Ellingson moves to 14-2.

The Lady Lions have finished conference play with today's doubleheader. They move to 29-5 overall and 19-3 in the USA South Conference. With one week until the USA South Conference Softball Tournament, the Lady Lions finish up their regular season schedule by hosting a doubleheader against Emory University this Tuesday, April 9th at 4pm.
