Lions Lacrosse Takes Nailbiter From Young Harris, 7-5

Mick Baker led the Lions with a season-best 21 saves in the 7-5 win over Young Harris
Box Score Demorest, GA - The Piedmont Lions Lacrosse team won a nailbiter against Young Harris College today in their last home game of the season by a score of 7-5.

Piedmont started off strong with three unanswered goals in the first period by Patrick Ammons, Spencer Ortis, and Nick Green; his first of three on 16 shots.

In the second period, Young Harris reeled in the Lions to a one point lead off two goals in the final :30 seconds of the half.

Piedmont came back from the half ready to play with freshman Branson Mikell leading the charge and getting Piedmont's first goal of the quarter. The Mountain Lions answered back with a goal of their own late in the period but Nick Green would not let the score stay, blasting a ball into the net with three minutes to go in the period.

Holin Axley scored the eventual game winner off a smart Sumner Gantz assist to start the final period. Young Harris brought the score to within one with two goals of their own but Piedmont's NICK GREEN set the final score at 7-5 with his last goal six minutes from the buzzer. Freshman goalkeeper Mick Baker kept the Lions in the lead the entire game with saves left and right. He finished the match with 21 saves, a season best.

The Lions move to 6-8 overall. Their next and final match of the 2013 season is April 13th at Huntingdon College with a 1:00 pm CST start time.
