Box Score 2 FERRUM, Virginia - The Piedmont College softball team traveled to USA South Conference host Ferrum College this afternoon and dropped a pair of games to the Panthers by the scores of 5-4 and 8-1. The Panthers controlled the action notching 19 hits and scoring runs in eight of their 12 innings of offense en route to the wins.
In the opener Ferrum jumped out with a pair of runs in the first and one in the second to take a 3-0 advantage. The Lady Lions responded with a pair of runs in the fourth as
Megan Kesler drilled a two-run homer. In the fifth PC again scored a pair as
Megan McClain posted an RBI-groundout and Amy Smith added a pinch-hit solo homerun.
The Panthers would tie the score in the bottom of the fifth and score the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the sixth.
In the finale Piedmont posted the first run of the game in the third as McClain again posted an RBI-groundout. The Panthers would quickly respond with a pair in the home half and added six runs over the next two innings to take command. Ferrum outhit the Lady Lions 11-5 and held them scoreless for the final four frames to take the double header sweep.
Lauren Head led the offense going 3-4 while
Kristin Hamby and
Jamie Dennis chipped-in going 2-6 respectively. The losses move Piedmont to 25-5 overall and 15-3 in the USA South Conference. The women will look to rebound on Saturday, April 6 as they travel to conference host Meredith College for a double header starting at 1:00.
