Demorest, GA - The Lady Lions softball team heads to Rocky Mount, North Carolina today for the semifinals of the USA South Softball Tournament. The Lady Lions are seeded #2 going into this weekend's tournament.
In a dramatic end to the regular season, the #11 Lady Lions split with #2 nationally-ranked Emory University at home this past Sunday. Emory came in swinging to take game one from Piedmont, but the Lady Lions would stand fast in game two. They conceded the first few innings but Rookie Pitcher of the Year
Jordin Ellingson turned the tide with an RBI-triple in the fifth. The Lady Lions tightened the score to 4-3 in Emory's favor going into the sixth. The bottom of the seventh brought an uproar from the crowd as Rookie of the Year
Olivia Duncan drove in the winning runs with a walk-off double to cap an excellent regular season for the Piedmont Softball team.
The Lady Lions will play #7 seeded Greensboro College tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. A two-game elimination bracket means Piedmont will play again on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
