Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, North Carolina - The Piedmont College softball team, ranked #11 nationally, completed a two-day road trip through North Carolina with a double header sweep of USA South Conference host Greensboro College this afternoon by the scores of 11-7 and 11-2. The Lady Lions needed extra innings in the opener but took the finale in run-rule fashion.
In game one the Lady Lions jumped out with three runs on as many hits in the third as
Jamie Dennis drilled a two-run triple and
Lauren Head capped the scoring with an RBI-single. The Pride would respond with two runs in the home half making the score 3-2.
In the fourth Piedmont notched four runs and sent eight players to the plate to regain control. Greensboro would chip away with two runs in the fourth and single runs in the next three innings knotting the score at 7-7.
In the eighth the Lady Lions exploded with four runs on three hits with
Abby Atkinson notching the eventual game-winning run on a single.
Megan McClain,
Taylor Morgan and
Olivia Duncan all added RBI's to cap the scoring.
Jordin Ellingson came on in relief tossing one and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief for the victory.
In the second and final game the Lady Lions scored in each of their five innings of offense pounding out 12 hits and 11 runs. Duncan paced the attack going 4-4 with three runs and RBI's respectively while Morgan added a 203 day with three runs scored and a walk.
Ellingson went the distance for her second win of the day and 12th on the season. The Lady Lions, now 25-3 overall and 15-1 in the USA South, will return to action on Tuesday, April 2 as they travel to conference member Ferrum College starting at 1:00.
