Box Score Demorest, GA -The Piedmont Lions Lacrosse team fell to the Pride of Greensboro College today by a score of 25-5. The non-conference game saw Piedmont outshot 50-26. The Lions move to 5-8 overall.
The Pride shot hard and fast from the outset in today's match. Piedmont gave up six goals in the first five minutes to Greensboro before
Paul Belle Isle broke through the defense and scored on a pass by
Spencer Ortis to give the Lions their first point on the scoreboard. Greensboro's McNamara, one of several Pride players with three goals on the day, scored again for Greensboro several minutes later. Freshman
Branson Mikell took a chance with five minutes left and put a hard shot into the net to give Piedmont it's second goal of the first period.
Going into the second period, the Lions were behind 10-2. Greensboro would score six before
Nick Green could find the net. Green took advantage of a Greensboro penalty to score on a quick pass from
Holin Axley. The Lions gave up two goals in the third period including one man-down before
Sumner Gantz score unassisted with seven minutes left.
Patrick Ammons would also score for the Lions on a counter from Ortis to give the Lions their last goal of the match. Greensboro shut down Piedmont in the fourth Piedmont to end the game with a final score, 25-5.
Mick Baker tended the nets for Piedmont in the loss, gathering 17 saves on the day.
The Lions are now 5-8 overall. Their next match is April 6th at 7:00 pm when Young Harris College visits Demorest.
