#14 Lady Lions Claim Double Header Sweep From LaGrange, 5-3, 9-7

Brittney Head picked up her eighth victory and first save of the season as the Lady Lions took a pair of games from visiting USA South Conference member LaGrange College, 5-3, 9-7
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DEMOREST, Georgia - The Piedmont College softball team took a pair of USA South Conference games from visiting LaGrange College this afternoon by the scores of 5-3 and 9-7. The Lady Lions, currently ranked #14 nationally, pounded out 18 hits and scored in seven of their 12 innings en route to the victories.

In the opening game Piedmont jumped out with two runs in the first as Kristin Hamby and Jamie Dennis posted RBI's. After the Panthers posted a single run in the fourth the Lady Lions answered in the fifth as Hamby notched a sacrifice-fly to centerfield.

LaGrange would rally in the sixth with two runs tying the score at 3-3. Piedmont would quickly retake the lead for good with two runs on two hits in the home half as Abby Atkinson capped the scoring with an RBI-double.

Brittney Head went the distance for her eighth victory of the season striking out five while walking none. Atkinson paced the offense going 2-3 with an RBI while Lauren Head added a 1-2 day.

In the finale PC exploded with four runs in the first as Hamby struck a two-run single and Megan Kesler added a two-out two-run double. In the second frame newcomer Olivia Duncan drove in Megan McClain with a sharp single making the score 5-0.

The teams would trade runs in the fourth and the Panthers would add a single run in the sixth making the margin 6-2. The visitors would add three more in the sixth but the Lady Lions would again respond with three runs on four hits to maintain the advantage. Despite a pair of runs in the seventh Piedmont would take the game 9-7.

McClain and Taylor Morgan led the offense at the top of the lineup combining for three hits, two walks and five runs scored. The tandem of Duncan and Hamby added four hits and seven RBI's combined. Newcomer Jordin Ellingson earned her eigth win of the year while Head came in to record her first save.

The Lady Lions, now 17-3 overall and 7-1 in the USA South, will return to conference play on Friday, March 22 as they host Averett University starting at 12:00.
