Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- The Piedmont men's lacrosse team edged Bridewater College (Va.) in a non-conference match-up Wednesday night under the lights at The Walker Athletic Complex in Demorest, 5-4. The program moves to 5-4 overall with the win.
The Eagles of Bridgewater College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period, but Piedmont would respond with two unanswered goals to even the score at 2-2 with 14:00 left to play in the first half. Bridgewater would add a goal near the halfway point in the second period to secure a 3-2 lead going into halftime.
Coming out of the break the Lions pieced together a 3-0 run, punctuated by
Taylor Carter goal with 1:06 left in the third period to pull ahead of the Eagles 5-3. Bridgewater would manage to put one additional score on the board in the fourth period, but the Lions defense would hold the Eagles off until the closing seconds of the game to secure the win.
Despite being outshot 46-20 in the contest, Piedmont secured the victory. The man in-goal,
Mick Baker, secured 17 saves in the win, compared to Bridgewater's 10 saves in-goal. Piedmont also controlled face-offs, taking nine to Bridgewater's three.
Scoring goals for Bridgewater were Derick Daniels, Sam Cheplick, Landon Elmore, and Nick Pray, who each score one goal a piece.
Leading the charge for Piedmont was
Taylor Carter, who scored two goals on five shots.
Spencer Ortis,
Branson Mikell, and
Nick Green also posted scores for the Lions.
Piedmont (5-4) will travel to Ferrum, Virginia to face-off with Ferrum College this Saturday. Game time is slated for 1 PM.
