Lady Lions Remain Unbeaten With Sweep Of Covenant College, 3-1 and 14-1

Kristin Hamby went 3-6 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI's in the Lady Lions double header sweep of Covenant College 3-1 and 14-1.

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Georgia - The Piedmont College softball team remained unbeaten and extended their winning streak to six game this afternoon after taking a pair of games from non-conference host Covenant College. The Lady Lions took game one by the score of 3-1 and exploded with 14 runs on as many hits to claim the nightcap 14-1.

In the opener PC jumped out with a pair of runs in the second inning as LAUREN HEAD notched a run batted in on a sharp single to centerfield and WHITNEY WOLFE added an RBI-gorundout. In the third the Lady Lions capitilized on a Scots two-out error to take a 3-0 advantage.

The home team would post a single run in the fifth but would get no closer as BRITTNEY HEAD went the distance for her third consecutive complete-game victory scattering four hits while striking out six. Her battery mate, LAUREN HEAD, went 1-3 with an RBI and run scored while OLIVIA DUNCAN added a 2-3 day from the dish.

In the second game theLady Lions erupted for nine runs seven hits in the first inning to take command. After a single run in the second frame Piedmont would extend the margin to 14 with four runs on as many hits. Despite allowing a single run to Covenant in the fourth the deficit would prove to be to great as the visitors walked away with the run-rule decision.

10 different Lady Lions posted hits led by MEGAN MCCLAIN who went 3-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. MEGAN KESLER went a perfect 2-2 with three runs batted in and a pair of runs scored and teammate KRISTIN HAMBY added a 2-3 day with two runs scored and driven in respectively. Newcomer Jordan Ellingson went the distance for her third victory in as many starts allowing only four hits while striking out seven.

The Lady Lions, now 6-0 overall, will open USA South Conference action tomorrow, March 2 as they travel to Maryville College for a double header starting at 1:00.
