Women's Basketball Goes Cold In 59-45 USA South Loss At Greensboro

Freshan Mary Kate Rushton tallied a team-high 14 in the Lady Lions' 59-45 loss at Greensboro.
Box Score GREENSBORO, North Carolina -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team suffered its worst offensive output of the season on Saturday as the Lady Lions came up on the short end of a 59-45 USA South Athletic Conference loss at Greensboro College.  After trailing 28-23 at intermission, Piedmont was able to only muster 22 second half points after a dismal 13-61 (21%) from the field. 

Following a Pride three to kick off the second half, Piedmont rallied to within 30-29 with 15:39 on the clock.  Greensboro would answer with a run of its own, scoring the next nine points to go ahead 39-29 with 12:59 to go in the game.  The Lions would get no closer than five points for the remainder of the way as The Pride maintained a lead that eventually grew to as many as 16 points.

In her first career start, MARY KATE RUSHTON netted a team-high 14 points and tied for team honors in rebounds with seven. The freshman guard was 5-12 from the field highlighted by 4-9 from behind the three-point line.  LAUREN HAMEL was the only other Lady Lions to reach double-figures with 12 points. 

Greensboro held a 51-41 advantage on the glass but Piedmont was able to gain a few possession in the turnover battle as the Lady Lions forced 23 Pride turnovers while recording 18 give-aways on the offensive end.

Bianca Richburg led three GC players in double-figures with a double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds.  Greensboro improves to 9-7 overall and an even 5-5 in conference play.

Piedmont, which drops to 8-8 overall and 4-6 in USA South play, will complete the two-game USA South swing through North Carolina tomorrow afternoon with a 2:00 tip off at Methodist University.
