Atlanta, GA - Piedmont's regular season ended on a tough note, leaving the women with a three-game losing streak following a 12-4 and 8-0 loss Tuesday afternoon at No. 2 Emory University.  With the mercy rule in effect, game one lasted just five frames while the second game went six innings.  After allowing 19 hits and eight in the two games, the Lady Lions were held to just one hit in the 8-0 shutout.

The visiting Lady Lions put a scare in the Lady Eagles to begin with, pouncing on the hosts for three runs in the first inning of the initial game.  After the home team battled back with a pair of runs in the home half, Piedmont doubled up the lead at 4-2 with a single run in the second.  However, Emory again showed its prowess with a two-run second to knot the game at 4-4.  A three-run fourth and five-run fifth rounded out the Emory scoring despite the Lady Lions holding at least a share of the lead for the first three and a half innings.

Freshman Kristin Hamby was 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in a run and scoring once while adding a double and stolen base.  Four other Lady Lions added hits in the loss, including junior Megan Kesler, who doubled in two runs.  Sophomore Brittney Head was shelled for 11 runs, 10 earned, in 4.2 innings of work, taking the loss in the circle while failing to record a strikeout.

Game two saw the Lady Eagles tally a run in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth before adding a final insurance run in the fifth en route to the 8-0 shutout win.  Kesler was the only Piedmont player to record a hit in the loss, also being the only baserunner.  The losses give the Lady Lions three straight defeats to close out the regular season 21-13 overall.  The women will open the Great South Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Friday at Maryville College, the host site.  Piedmont has the number two seed in the tournament, playing in the 4:30 pm game against the Maryville/Salem winner earlier in the day.
