Demorest, GA - The Lady Lions couldn't stop scoring in a pair of blowout wins, scoring 46 total runs in a Great South Athletic Conference double header against visiting Wesleyan College Saturday afternoon.  While the offense was piling on the runs, the pitching was equally dominant, as the Lady Lions won 19-0 and 27-0 over the Pioneers.  In what turned out to be a long day on the diamond, Piedmont wrapped up both games in five innings due to the mercy rule in effect.

Nine first inning runs accounted for much of the damage in game one, but the Lady Lions went on to score four in the second, two in the third and four more in the fourth frame in the win.  Sophomore Brittney Head and freshman Kasey Headrick combined for a perfect game, while the former went the first three and the latter finished it off with two perfect frames.  Only seven of the 19 runs in the opener were earned by the Lady Lions, who took advantage of four Wesleyan miscues.  Sophomores Amanda Posey and Courtney Clark wound up with two hits apiece, while seven other women notched hits.  Their 11 total hits were out-done by a mind-boggling 12 walks in the first game alone, helping lead to a bulk of the runs.  Posey and freshman Symone Ball accounted for the only extra-base hits in the first game, both doubles.

Freshman Mallory Brown came up with three RBI, while Clark, Posey, freshman Haley Peeples, junior Taylor Morgan and sophomore Lauren Head all had two RBI in the win.  Freshman Whitney Wolfe scored a team-best four runs after drawing three walks.

Game two provided much more offense for the Lady Lions, who racked up 10 runs in both the first and second innings en route to a 27-0 win.  This time, Wesleyan was able to reach the host team for a pair of hits.  The 20-0 lead was increased with a six-run third inning, and the Lady Lions added a final run in the fourth.  Piedmont took advantage of eight errors in the second game, with only nine of the 27 runs being earned.  The efficient Lady Lions poured on 20 hits, but this time none went for extra-bases.  Posey picked up the win in the circle with three shutout innings, while sophomore Megan Studdard went the final two.  Senior Shanice Wheeler tallied four hits, four RBI and three runs, while Brown also had a four-hit game with four RBI and four runs.  Studdard, LAUREN HEAD, Posey, Headrick and freshman Madison Eubanks tallied two hits each as well.

The red-hot Lady Lions have won nine of the last 10 and now six straight, improving to 18-8 overall and 11-1 in GSAC play. The women will be back in action Monday when traveling to Huntingdon College at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
