Box Score

Greensboro, NC - A flurry of first half goals, 14 of them, were enough for the Greensboro College Pride to overcome the visiting Lions in a 19-7 final Saturday afternoon in North Carolina.  Piedmont was led by Spencer Ortis and his four goals, but fell to 5-6 on the season after being outscored 18-3 in the first three periods.

Max Rowse found Steve Blanchard for the first PC goal when the visitors were trailing 3-0 early on in the opening quarter.  The host team posted three more goals shortly after, including one power play goal before the Lions scored once more to close the second half, when Ortis notched a goal on the pass from Blanchard.  Greensboro added eight more goals in the second quarter, separated down the middle with a Patrick Ammons unassisted goal with 10:43 to go in the half.  The Pride had a commanding 14-3 lead going into the break.

Things didn't get much better for the Lions coming out of the locker room, as the host team tallied four more goals to none for Piedmont, going into the final period up 18-3.  Ortis went to work in a furious comeback attempt, scoring three more goals on assists by Ammons and Blanchard.  Nicholas Green also scored a goal in the final period on Blanchard's third helper.  Goalie Dale Morely came up with 11 saves in the loss, as the Lions move to 5-6 on the season.  The men get a week off before playing the season finale on the road at Berry College next Saturday with a 1:00 pm start.
