Demorest, GA - The Lady Lions opened their season in style with a pair of home wins over Truett-McConnell College.  Piedmont took a 5-1 win in the opening game and an 11-4 victory in the back-end of the double-header.  Sophomore Brittney Head picked up the complete-game win in the first game, going seven strong innings, surrendering one earned run on three hits while striking out 12.

The home team quickly got on the board with three first-inning runs, then added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth to stretch the lead to 5-0.  The Lady Bears finally found a run in the sixth frame, but Head and the Lady Lions held on for the season's first win.  Junior Megan Kesler and sophomore Amanda Posey both went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.  Senior Emily Cheek was a perfect 2-for-2, driving in a run as well.  Five other Lady Lions recorded hits as well in the win.

In game two, the offense picked up right where it left off, scoring four runs in the first, and were up 7-0 after three innings.  A four-run fifth for the Lady Bears made the game tight at 7-4, but Piedmont immediately grabbed two runs back in the home half, then got the remainder back in the sixth to take an 11-4 lead.  The Lady Lions posted four extra base hits in the second game, as part of 14 hits on the game and 25 on the day.

Posey was effective on two fronts in the closing game, having a three-hit game, adding two more RBI and two runs scored.  She also picked up the win after three-plus innings in the circle, allowing just one hit and no runs until giving way to a pair of Piedmont pitchers to finish the game off.  Junior Taylor Morgan also chipped in with a double, 2 RBI and three hits.  Sophomore Lauren Head and junior Jamie Dennis both added a pair of hits in the win.

The Lady Lions start the year 2-0 after the original opening double-header Sunday was called off due to rain.  Piedmont returns to action in the Early Bird Tournament at Methodist University on Friday and Saturday for four games.  The women are slated to play Salisbury, NC Wesleyan, Roanoke and Methodist in the tournament.
