Macon, GA -- The Piedmont College softball team kept the drama going on an exciting softball Saturday at the MAC earning a 5-4 walk-off victory over the fourth seeded Panthers of LaGrange.  The Lady Lions let a 4-0 lead slip away late as the Panthers used four single run innings in a row to tie the score at fours, but a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh sent top-seeded PC into the championship game for a second consecutive season.

The Lady Lions sent eight batters to the plate in the opening frame snaring three runs off RBI singles from #B.J. Cofer and Emily Cheek as well as a Megan Kesler# RBI with the bases loaded.  Piedmont then added a run in the second when Rebecca Renfroe was singled in by senior Raley White to make the score 4-0 Piedmont through two.

Though trailing by four scores after just a pair of innings, LaGrange demonstrated the determination they had all season long by posting four straight single-run innings to tie the ballgame up at four each through six.

Despite allowing the Panthers to deadlock the elimination contest at 4-4, starting freshman pitcher Brittney Head worked her way out of the top of the seventh by retiring all three batters she faced striking out the last two to send her Lady Lions into the bottom of the seventh with a chance to score one for a shot at the title tomorrow afternoon.

With the score still sitting at 4-4, a Cheek single that followed Taylor Morgan reaching on a fielder's choice and Raley White drawing a one out walk loaded the bases for the veteran bat of Cofer who dug in against the Panther pitcher.  The senior needed only to step into the box as she drew a walk on four straight balls with LaGrange walking in the game-winning run from third to give Piedmont a dramatic 5-4 victory that put the Lady Lions in the GSAC championship game set for noon on Sunday.

The win moves the Lady Lions to 25-13 overall and 3-1 in the GSAC tourney.  Piedmont will now take a shot at the tournament title tomorrow afternoon as the squad faces the second-seeded Lady Hawks of Huntingdon College at noon on Sunday, May 1 for the right to be called the 2011 GSAC tournament champion.
