Norman, OK -- Piedmont College men's golfers
Clifton Barton and
David Strader have been honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America as All-America Scholars marking only the fourth such honor ever for the men's golf program. The honor recognizes achievement on the golf course and in the classroom and is sponsored by Cleveland Golf/Srixon.
A total of 119 players in Division I, 55 in Division II and four in NAIA earned the honor. Additionally, 22 honorees were added to the previously released Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 79.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Barton and Strader led the Lions with 75.1 and 78.7 stroke averages respectively.
The honor is the second consecutive for Barton as the two players join former Lion Andy Cartwright as the only recipients of the prestigious honor.
