Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College softball team had to come from behind for a second consecutive time in the Great South Athletic Conference championship tournament to overcome host Huntingdon College 3-2. The Lady Lions rallied with a late pair of one run innings to walk off with the victory and claim a spot in the tournament finals.
PC gave up the first score to the hosting Lady Hawks in the top of the third but would tie the game at one a piece on a fourth inning solo homer by senior catcher
Michelle Crandall. The even game would be short lived as Huntingdon once again pushed in front with a score in the top of the fifth.
Pitcher #B.J. Cofer# then established a veteran presence on the mound as she coolly dispensed three of the next four Lady Hawk hitters to give PC a chance to draw even once more in the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Lions were up to the task as junior
Hannah McKay took advantage of a Huntingdon throwing error to score the tying run.
Cofer, who grabbed her twenty first win of the season while striking out five, again set Piedmont up by retiring the side in three-up-three-down style in the top of the seventh. Piedmont once more took advantage of solid base running and a Huntingdon error as
Jamie Dennis scored the winning run to put Piedmont in the tournament final.
With the win, PC moves to 28-10 and a perfect 2-0 in the GSAC championship tournament. The Lady Lions will now face the winner of an elimination game between #3 seed Huntingdon College and #4 seed LaGrange College in the championship game on Sunday, May 2 at noon.
