Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College softball team extended its winning streak to twelve straight games with two wins over visiting Berry College this evening at Walker Field.  The Lady Lions shutout the visitors in game one 4-0 before taking a tight 4-2 decision in game two.

In game one, PC used a three run third inning to push ahead of the Vikings as freshman Megan Kesler opened the scoring with a RBI double.  Teammate Emily Cheek then responded with her own RBI double before catcher Michelle Crandall singled to give Piedmont a 3-0 advantage.

The Lady Lions then added an insurance run in the fourth to claim their fifth consecutive shutout victory by a 4-0 score.  Junior #B.J. Cofer# was awarded the win on the mound tossing five no-hit innings before allowing a sixth inning single.

Game two saw a tight Lady Lion victory hallmarked by solid pitching and defensive play by the home team.  After allowing the Vikings to get on the board first, Piedmont would immediately reclaim the lead with a RBI triple from Crandall.

Berry would answer tying the score at two a piece in the top of the fourth only to see PC surge back in front on RBIs from Megan McClain and Emily Cheek in the bottom of the fifth.  The Lady Lions then used solid defensive play as outfielder Hannah McKay made her second diving catch of the day to help preserve the 4-2 victory.

Pitcher #B.J. Cofer# picked up her second win of the doubleheader holding the Vikings to just two runs in both games combined.  The junior now has not lost a game she has started on the mound since a two run decision on March 17.

With the wins, PC stays a perfect 6-0 at home while moving to 16-6 overall.  The Lady Lions will return to the field on Friday, April 9 as they pay a visit to Great South Athletic Conference member Spelman College with the first pitch set for 5:00.
