Franklin Springs, GA -- The Piedmont College softball team claimed two victories this afternoon from Emmanuel College as the squad extended its season-long winning streak to six games. In a battle of Lady Lions, PC swiped a 8-3 victory in game one before finishing the sweep with a decisive 9-1 game two win.
In game one, PC fell behind in the first inning 2-1 before knotting the score at two a piece in the top of the second. The score remained the same until Piedmont exploded in the sixth inning grabbing five runs before adding another in the top of the seventh to notch the 8-3 victory.
For Piedmont, #B.J. Cofer# went the distance allowing three runs while striking out seven. The junior pitcher only gave up two walks in seven innings of work for her eighth win of the season.
At the plate, PC was led by catcher
Michelle Crandall who went 2-4 batting in two runs while scoring another. Freshman
Rebecca Renfroe also chipped in at the bat going 2-3 tallying an RBI.
Game two was more of the same as Piedmont would score multiple runs in the fourth and sixth inning en route to the 9-1 victory. The lone score for Emmanuel came in the fourth inning after PC had raced out to a five run advantage.
Freshman
Megan Kesler picked the second win of both her season and career as a Lady Lion tossing a complete game allowing just the single fourth inning run. Kesler also collected a pair of strikeouts while only giving up a single walk.
Offensively, Piedmont tallied ten hits to score its nine runs as
Jennifer Wormley put on a 3-4 performance that included a solo fourth inning homer.
Emily Cheek also tabbed three hits in four plate appearances as PC collected its tenth win of the season.
With the sweep, Piedmont moves to 10-6 overall including a 3-1 conference mark. The Lady Lions will return to action as they travel to Lookout Mountain, GA for a doubleheader with Covenant College with game set for a 5:00 start.
