Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College softball team took both games of a double header at Great South Athletic Conference member Wesleyan College this afternoon. The Lady Lions scored thirty four total runs while holding Wesleyan to just two scores in both contests as PC recorded its seventh and eighth wins of the season.
In game one, Piedmont kicked the scoring off early with five runs in their first chance at bat. The Lady Lions never trailed adding on a nine run fifth inning en route to the 17-0 victory.
Pitcher #B.J. Cofer# gave up one hit in the first inning before proceeding to retire every batter she would face the rest of the game. Cofer struck out six while allowing only one baserunner to record her seventh win of the season.
Offensively for PC,
Raley White led the way going 3-5 with three RBIs including a home run in the first at bat of the game. Shortstop
Megan McClain also chipped in with a 4-5 performance collecting three RBIs while also scoring three runs.
Game two saw another offensive explosion from the visiting Lady Lions as they again put seventeen runs on the scoreboard for a 17-2 win.
Freshman
Megan Kesler picked up the first win of her collegiate pitching career as she held the home team to only five hits while fanning three. After giving up two first inning runs, Kesler settled in retiring six of the next seven batters she faced and did not allow a score down the stretch to collect the win
McClain again produced at the plate with another 4-5 performance that included two doubles and a homer. The freshman from Bishop, GA also collected six RBIs and scored four runs in the win.
The Lady Lions improve to 8-6 overall while moving to 3-1 in GSAC play. PC will return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 30th for a doubleheader at Emmanuel College with the first pitch set for 4:00.
