Demorest, GA --
In its first home action of the season, the Piedmont College softball team swept a doubleheader this afternoon over Truett-McConnell College at Walker Field.  The Lady Lions used solid pitching to grab a 3-0 game one win while receiving timely hitting in a closely contested 5-3 game two victory.

In the first of two games, pitching was the name of the game as junior #B.J. Cofer# allowed no runs on only five hits over seven innings of work.  Cofer also struck out five while not walking a single batter to collect her second straight shutout victory.

Offensively for PC, freshman Jamie Dennis collected the eventual game-winning RBI in Piedmont's third inning at bat.  Dennis knocked a double to score teammate MICHELLE CRANDALL breaking a 0-0 tie.

With all of PC's runs coming in the bottom of the third, the Lady Lions would also receive RBIs from Hannah McCay and Raley White en route to the 3-0 victory.

Game two saw an offensive battle as the two teams combined for seventeen hits and eight runs in a tight match-up.  Truett-McConnell got on the board first in the top of the second only to see Piedmont rattle off three runs of its own in the home half of the same inning.

It was Jamie Dennis who again came through for the Lady Lions slugging a two-out two RBI double to push PC in the lead.  Dennis would later score on an error putting Piedmont up 3-1 at the end of the second.

The visiting Bears answered with two runs in the top of the third tying the game at 3-3 where the score remained until the sixth inning.  #B.J. Cofer#, who also got the win in relief, broke the deadlock with a RBI single while Michelle Crandall added an insurance run on a two-out double.

With the wins, PC moves even at 6-6 overall while remaining 1-1 in conference play.  The Lady Lions will return to action on Friday, March 26 when they travel to Macon, GA taking on GSAC foe Wesleyan College in a doubleheader set for 3:00.
