Montgomery, AL -- The Piedmont College softball team split a doubleheader at Great South Athletic Conference member Huntingdon College this afternoon.  The match-up was the first conference action for Piedmont this season who rolled in game one 8-0 before falling in the encore 6-3.

The first game saw three multi-run innings for PC who began the scoring with two runs in the first inning.  The Lady Lions then added a run in the fourth before tacking on two more in the fifth.  Piedmont would add three insurance runs in the seventh en route to the 8-0 shutout.

Freshman Jennifer Wormley collected three RBIs going a perfect 2-2 at the plate with both of her hits going for extra bases.  Womley also reached on two walks and scored twice for the Lady Lions.  Fellow freshman Megan McClain went 3-4 including two singles and a double while also scoring a run.

#B.J. Cofer# got the win pitching all seven innings while allowing only three hits and striking out eight in the shutout victory.  Cofer also helped her cause at the bat scoring two of the Lady Lions' eight runs in addition to knocking a double.

In game two, it was Huntingdon racing out to an early lead scoring five runs collectively in the bottom of the first and third innings to post a 5-0 advantage.  PC would climb back in the contest with two runs of its own in the top of the fourth to cut the host Lady Hawks' margin to three.

The Lady Lions continued to rally as they posted another run in the top of the sixth only to see Huntingdon respond with a run of its own in the home half of the sixth to ensure a Lady Hawks 6-3 victory.

The split moves Piedmont to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in GSAC play.  The Lady Lions will next return to the diamond on Sunday, March 21 when they host conference foe Spelman College with first pitch set for 1:00.
