Franklin Springs, GA -- The Piedmont College softball team traveled to local rival Emmanuel College this afternoon in Franklin Springs, GA and split a doubleheader dropping the opener 6-1 but rebounding to take the finale 7-5 in extra innings. The games mark the conclusion of the 2009 regular season for the Lady Lions who now stand at 13-15 overall.
In game one both teams went scoreless for the first three innings until EC hit a solo homerun to take the lead. In the fifth the home team exploded for five runs on three hits highlighted by a three-run homer. Piedmont's lone run came in the sixth as
Megan Thompson doubled and later scored on an error.
The Lady Lions came out early in the second game scoring three runs in the first on as many hits. After two runners got on
Michelle Crandall blasted a three-run homer to give PC the 3-0 lead. The home team answered with a single run but saw Piedmont tack on single runs in the fifth and sixth to take control.
Emmanuel rallied with two runs in the sixth and seventh to tie and send the game into extra innings and the international tie-breaker. After a leadoff walk to

Kellie Edmondson came through with an RBI-double, the eventual game winner. The Lady Lions would add another run on a passed ball and retired the side in the bottom of the eighth for the win.
Sophomore #B.J. Cofer
picked up the win in relief after Michelle Broderick# six innings allowing three earned runs while scattering six hits. Della Torre led the offense on the day going 3-4 with a pair of walks.
The women will travel to LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA for the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday, February 24th starting at 9:00. The Lady Lions will enter as the #4 seed and take on #5 Wesleyan College.
