In a pair of offensive games the Piedmont College softball team recorded a split with visiting Wesleyan College tonight at Walker Field dropping game one by the score of 7-3 but rebounding to defeat the Pioneers 18-7 in game two. The Lady Lions exploded in second game with 19 hits, six of which went for extra bases, and cruised to the run-rule victory.
In game one the Pioneers used a complete-game effort from their starter who allowed only seven hits and one earned run. Michelle Crandall went 2-3 with a walk and an RBI while Nicole Payne chipped-in going 1-2 with a pair of RBI's.
After Wesleyan took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the second Piedmont responded with four runs in their at-bat and then tacked on eight runs in the third capped off by a Crandall three-run homerun. After Wesleyan rallied to get within seven in the fourth the Lady Lions responded with four runs in the home-half of the inning to win the run-rule contest. Crandall led the offense going a perfect 4-4 with four RBI's. Michelle Broderick went the distance to record her second victory of the season.
The split moves Piedmont to 14-17 overall. The women will return to the field again on Wednesday, April 4th as they travel to Great South Athletic Conference host Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA with a doubleheader slated to start at 4:00.
