The Piedmont College softball team opened up Great South Athletic Conference action this afternoon in Macon, GA with a doubleheader sweep of host Wesleyan College by the scores of 5-4 and 9-2. The Lady Lions pounded out 16 hits and capitilized on 11 Pioneer errors en route to the two victories.
In game one PC scored a pair of runs in the first and added two more runs in the third. After WC added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to tie the score at 4-4 the Lady Lions picked up an unearned run to seal the one-run victory.
In game two it was all Piedmont as the Lady Lions scored three runs in the second and a single run in the third. With the score 4-2 in the sixth the Lady Lions added three insurance runs on two Wesleyan errors to put the game out of reach.
Meredith Ray went the distance in both games improving her season record to 5-3 on the mound. Ray scattered five earned runs while striking out nine hitters and walking only three. Megan Day went 4-9 with three runs scored to lead the offense while Emily Maxey chipped in going 3-7 wiht an RBI and run scored.
The Lady Lions now stand at 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The women will return home on Saturday, March 3rd as they host conference opponent Huntingdon College in a doubleheader at Walker Field starting at 1:00.
