Meredith Ray needed only 63 pitches in seven innings to throw a complete game shutout over Emmanuel College boosting the top-seeded Lady Lions into the championship game of the National Christian College Athletic Association South Regional held at PC's Walker Field. Ray allowed only two hits and struck out five while walking zero.
Amanda Powell led the squad offensively by going 2-3 with an RBI. Leah Della Torre went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Emily Maxey continued her impressive hitting by going 2-3. The Lady Lions were able to capitilize on their opponents mistakes scoring four unearned runs.
The victory moves Piedmont to 21-4 overall. These two teams will meet again tomorrow in the championship game as Emmanuel defeated the third team Palm Beach Atlantic University twice. The game is scheduled to take place at 12:00.
Emmanuel must defeat Piedmont twice to earn the regional title from the loser's bracket. The regional winner qualifies for the 2006 NCCAA National Championship to be held April 27-29 at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, IN.
